Board of a privately owned bank.


Issues

The Executive Committee of the Board wanted a) an independent review of the loan portfolio of the bank; b) to assess loan quality; c) compliance with the credit policy and procedures of the bank; d) assess the adequacy of the reserves.

In addition to front-end turnaround work (market sizing and segmentation, branch network optimisation), the credit function needed a careful review.


Project

The objective of the project was to conduct an overall risk-asset-review of the loan portfolio.

The project team reviewed the credit policy and established review criteria and objectives.

This was followed by a thorough review of credit portfolio addressing concentration issues, compliance, credit process, problem recognition and remedial management.

The results were discussed with line and senior management and recommendations for change were agreed.

Report of finding and portfolio quality were prepared and presented to the Board and the Executive Committee.
